You awaken in one of the most elegant hotels on the bottom of the Stelvio. There’s no alarm clock, no kids jumping on top of you, and the bed is almost impossible to leave. But the smell of coffee and the promise of a traditional Alpine breakfast are enough motivation to move.

Make your way to the hotel restaurant for a healthy breakfast buffet of Italian and European favorites. Muesli. And of course, pancakes, eggs and fruit.

It’s time to gather in the bike room for a route description of our trip through the Italian Alps, with the Gavia being the highpoint of your day. Fill your bottles, set your Garmin and prepare for a delightfully epic ride through the effervescent mountains of Italy.

You’re off with your road bike along a stream through a long Alpine valley dotted with stone farmhouses. Take your time and snap some photos. There’s no rush.

After the ascend you arrive at the Passo Gavia - you own the world. Our meeting point is a typical restaurant, known for its attention to detail and delicious selection of typical Alpine favorites. We’ll sit outside and enjoy the sun. It’s what you do around here, after all.

After lunch, you’ll finish riding back to the hotel with an energizing descent. The scenery is breathtaking.

You arrive back at the hotel just in time for afternoon drinks. Change into your poolside gear and grab your favorite book for an hour or two of complete downtime.

It’s time to convene in the lobby. We’re headed to a local trattoria for an Alpine cooking class led by a local gourmet chef.

You’ll prepare your own Alpine cuisine with the best fresh local ingredients you’ve ever tasted. You’re a little new to this. How much is a dash? How do you crack an egg with one hand? More wine, please. Luckily, one of the best chefs in town is our guide.

It’s been an exciting day, but it’s time to turn down. Your bed is waiting, relaxing music is playing, and a gentle breeze wafts through the courtyard. Does this have to end? Will the kids miss us if we never come home?
